As a mission of the Biennale, the Chief Curator Dr. Chan Lai-Kiu looks into the challenges of land shortage in Hong Kong and attempts to search for solutions to the problem. She has formed a curatorial task force recruited from cross disciplinary practices including city planners and architects to study how valuable land resources can be better used through innovations in town planning, urban renewal, village development. She also demonstrated how to collect vacant frontages and spaces in Hong Kong, like hoardings, spaces under flyover, office lobby, express escalator circulation spaces, streets and plaza as venues connected by technology into an augmented city gallery.

With her experiences as an architect, a senior executive in a real estate developer and as a co-founder of a Science-Park-incubated tech startup, she strongly believes technology will disrupt the ways we make design decisions, procure services, and redefines the meaning of “uses” and “locations” in real estate. For this, she invited architects with diverse experiences in use of technology, in technology startup and in real estate to run a symposium on “how technology will shape our future built environment”. The symposium attempts to give an update on the latest technological scenes and bring professionals together to discuss and exchange on hot topics that relates to how technology impact architecture and real estate.
